Joseph Gurule, Assistant Director for Region #4 of TKE Nation, stopped by Monday to check on the local chapter and provide any answers the executive board had in regards to Nationals. The new slogan for TKE as determine by the Grand Council this past fall is now: "Better Men for a Better World". Overall, the visit went well, except for the extreme temperatures and weather that Maryville is commonly known for throughout the years.

The Passing of Michael Landry to the Chapter Eternal
Frater Michael D Landry (ΔΝ #216) passed away July 20, 2007 after a lengthy battle with prostate cancer. Michael was born February 12, 1942.
Frater laundry met and married Linda Reed at NWMSU, in 1964. They were married for 20 years, and have two sons.
Frater Mike returned to Kankakee, and taught history at East Ridge and Kankakee high schools until the mid-90s. He was diagnosed with prostate cancer and given 18 months to live. He took early retirement, and with his dog and his Toyota pickup, he camped his way around North America, traveling for months at a time. His objective was to visit every US state and he hunted and fished all the provinces of Canada and every US state except Alaska and Hawaii. He also made a bonus trip to the Baja to see an eclipse. Mike outlived the doctors' predictions by a decade, and never lost his sense of humor. When the cancer metastasized, he did not whine or complain.
Those who knew Mike at Maryville would be fascinated to hear that he mellowed in his later years. And as a good teacher, he is a legend in Kankakee. Often when his wife meets one of his students they remember Mike as their history teacher and comment he was the best they ever had.
How many people get "a death sentence" as Mike did, and then accomplish what appears to be his "bucket list?"
