2010 Delta Nu Memorial Scramble Summary – Michael Reiff, 1120, mwreiff@charter.net
15 years down and many more to go! This year’s tournament, the 15th consecutive, went off with a hitch and we are getting lucky with the weather – no issues except heat and humidity and wind to be had since the beginning. Thanks again to all 93 golfers that made the trip to Maryville for this year’s tournament. This was the biggest field to date with two more golfers than last year. Over the 15-year-history, 193 different players have participated.
Congratulations to the team of Mark Gerling 1044, Todd Fordyce 1091, Fred Gude 1140, and Mike Wynne 1059, who were the winning team with a 16-under-par 56. We all hope you’re back next year to defend your title. The full list of results and pin prize winners can be found at the end of this summary.
Memorials Mulligans and Tee Box Markers
Through the sale of Memorial (Team) Mulligans, $1,020 was raised and we were able to place Memorial Fund Bricks on the Dick Wiles Teke for Life Donations Wall for Jay Schug 321, Dick Wiles 365, and Richard Larsen 642. We also added to the funds of Wayne Cherry 1014, Chris Sams 870, Steve Healey 912, Ryan Tesdell 1178, Bill Bolyard 609, Cyril Dougherty 14, William Hunt 25, Scott Eckard 449 and Paul Jones 1152.
Memorial Tee Box Markers debuted this year to further memorialize those Fraters that have passed on to the Chapter Eternal. The first four markers were for Fraters that had golfed in the tournament; they were for Lee King 296, Pete Greve 580, Ryan Tesdell 1178 and Kurt Gentry 1280.
Prior to the start of this year’s tournament, a marker was sponsored by Mark Rinker for Chris Sams 870. Chris’ marker will appear on a hole at next year’s event. Memorial Tee Box Markers can be sponsored for a $100 donation. For more information, please contact Brent Steffens at mrbrentsteffens@yahoo.com.
The event ended with dinner, awards and a presentation on the state of the chapter by Alumni Board of Advisors President Mark Witthar 853 and Delta Nu Alumni Association Director Brad Shelton 651. The event raised over $1,400 for the general fund of the Delta Nu Alumni Association.
Thank you also to all of the volunteers and others that helped make the tournament possible. Thank you to Scott Albright 1087 for the great logo, Kevin Malick 1143 for taking care of the shirts and helping plan the tournament (and my ride down), Chris Holder 1362 for your help at check-in, David Peterson 903 for your help at set up, and Dan Canchola 873 and Ryan Jackson 1547 for taking all of the pictures. Pictures will be posted to the 2010 Golf Gallery on the Delta Nu website at http://www.nwtke.com/image.
Special thanks also to Coach Mel Tjeerdsma, Steve Sutton at the Northwest Alumni Office, Carson Riedel from Carson’s Sports Grille, Steve Brightwell 775 and Jeff Borchardt Xi-Eta 146 for their pin prize donations to the tournament. Also thanks to Robert Taflinger from TKE Headquarters for spending the day with us.
Finally, thank you to Brent Steffens for helping plan and run the tournament and for the great work on the Tee Box Markers.
We hope you plan to make it next year. Once the announcement is made in early 2011, please be sure to get your reservation in early as spots will be sure to fill up quickly again.
Your humble tournament organizers,

Active Chapter Prytanis Report - Kenneth Hamilton, 1436, S255507@nwmissouri.edu
A big thank you from all the actives of TKE Delta Nu for your continued support and participation in the fraternity! It was pleasure to speak with everyone at the golf tournament and at Scott Kielby's house. Watching the fraters sign the scroll brought back memories of my pledgeship in 2004. It was a very touching experience and
I am looking forward to meeting more of you during Homecoming!
Alumni Board of Advisors Update
President’s Report – Mark Witthar, 853, mwitthar@ford.com
We continue to make great progress as an alumni association. We just concluded our 15th annual Delta Nu Memorial Scramble Golf Tournament and we had an outstanding turn out. The following night, Frater Scott Keilbey 666, opened his home to a large group of Delta Nu alumni. That evening three Fraters signed the scroll that did not sign many years ago when they pledged. Additionally, we had the sister of a deceased Frater sign the scroll. What an emotional moment! This typifies the strong bond that is Delta Nu.
The active chapter continues to make improvements on the house property and plans are being made for a strong rush this fall. Additionally the active chapter is a strong candidate for yet another Top Teke Award!
The point of this is simple, we are doing great because we have involved and interested alumni! As I have done each time I write a note to you I ask that you consider a $50 annual donation to the alumni association or get three years for only $105. We use this money to help re-connect alumni - we do not use it to pay for repairs at the house.

Alumni Association Update – Brad Shelton, 651, brad.shelton@nwtke.com
With the success of the golf outing and the gathering in Kansas City, 14 new members joined the DNAA and four more pledged to join. This brings the number of dues-paying members to more than 85 and ranks us as one of the largest TKE Alumni Chapters in the country!!!
The Membership committee continues to gather steam and is more than half way to our goal of 150 members in the DNAA by Christmas, 2010. Every member of the Fall 1974 pledge class has joined the Alumni Association. The classes with the next highest percentage of membership are 1982 Spring, 1974 Spring, 1970 Fall, 1973 Fall, 1972 Spring, 1975 Spring.
The new Delta Nu database contains more than 717 valid emails, 1,258 valid addresses and 237 missing out of a total of 1,572 Fraters. The plan is to load that complete database into the Frater Finder and make that available on the Web site behind the secure log on in early July. Look for more information on how to access this web portal shortly.
Please check out the missing Fraters page and look over the Chapter Eternal page when you have a minute. If you are interested in becoming a member of the DNAA, contact me at brad.shelton@nwtke.com

CAREER SUMMARY: After completed my General Practice Residency in 1986 I split my time between private practice in Prairie Village KS and teaching at UMKC Dental School. I have been at the same location providing general dental services to the NE Johnson County area for the past 24 years. My web address is www.brightwelldentistry.com

Throw in a few fishing excursions for Ocean Striper, Northern Pike, Walleye, Rainbow Trout and that just about sums it up.

I graduated 2nd in my class at UMKC School of Dentistry for which I am forever grateful to those science professors that pushed me so hard in undergraduate school at NWMSU.
TKE House Capital Improvements fund – Steve Moss, 927; semoss@mchsi.com
Many thanks to those Fraters who joined us at the TKE house on June 4th for the golf tournament, at which we also kicked off the 2010 TKE House Capital Improvement Campaign. We have a nice start on our campaign, but have a ways to go to meet our goal for this year. To those Fraters that have already made a contribution or pledge for some of the upcoming improvement projects for the house, “Thank you” for your support.
With the late start to our efforts this year, the 2010 fundraising goal for the house is $15,000. Starting in 2011 and going forward, the annual goal for capital improvements will be $20,000. To date, we are 20% toward our 2010 goal, having received $2,980. These funds have come from six Fraters as well as from the memorial mulligans sold at the golf tournament. The plan for the fund, as approved by the Board, is to make 75% of what is contributed available for immediate improvement projects and the hold the remaining 25% in a long-term account for future projects.
What are we going to do with the money you might ask? We have three plans for funds that are currently available. First, the kitchen area will be renovated to include a "meeting" area with tables, chairs, and storage for ritual equipment and chapter test files. This project will provide the chapter executive board with a meeting space as well as a study area for groups or pledge class training sessions. Second, we plan to purchase some basic kitchen supplies for use at events such as homecoming, smokers, parent’s day, graduation, etc. Finally, we will be upgrading the public restrooms to add storage for cleaning supplies as well as install a utility sink.
The next project to tackle is replacing the railing above the chapter room with an appropriate, durable alternative. Plans are under review for this project, but we need the funding to start this project, so if you are able to do so, please send in your contribution.
All contributions are recognized on the "Richard W. Wiles Teke for Life Donor Wall" at the house. Please help with what you can. If we all make regular contributions to this fund, large or small, we WILL make a BIG difference. Be sure to look for a more complete "Capital Improvement" update via e-mail and on www.nwtke.com in the near future. As supporting the TKE House Capital Improvement Fund will ensure the sustainability and viability of TKE at Northwest Missouri State University for future members and alumni for years to come, please consider supporting this fund.
