Frater Magill has spent his career teaching and developing others, first as at YJB in western Iowa from 1965 to 1969, then in 1970-1974 in Iowa City.   From 1974 to 1978 he was the Director at an Alternative School, in Des Moines, Ia. and in 1978 was named Dean of Students at Blaine (Minnesota) High School.   His last role before retirement in 2006 was Director of Counseling at the Anoka Hennepin School District – and was named ‘Counselor of the Year’ in Minnesota.   In 1970, Gary earned a Masters degree in Counseling from NWMSU and in 1995 a Specialist in Education degree from St. Mary’s University in Minneapolis, Mn. where he presently lives.

Gary may have retired in 2006 but never stops learning, taking a college level course each semester.   He married wife Rhonda in 1970 and they are still enjoying their daughters Shannon, Allison and a new granddaughter today.    Gary enjoys boating, biking, exercise at the YMCA, rehabbing real estate and ‘playing with the givers, while avoiding the takers’.

TKE has always held a fond spot in Gary’s heart and he is giving back through his participation in Alumni Association, donations to the house fund, an occasional trek back for Homecoming and staying in touch with a few of his fraters in Des Moines, Florida, etc.    Gary claims that the character ‘Bluto’ in the documentary Animal House was loosely based on his college persona, which he set aside for the greater good of humanity.
